Bloomberg & OceanX Digital Collaboration: "Our Underwater States"

Some of our greatest treasures lie just off our shore, like the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts National Monument, nicknamed the “Serengeti of the Atlantic.” Bloomberg Philanthropies and OceanX Media collaborated with Woods Hole Oceanographic scientists to send submarines into these massive underwater canyons, many of which dwarf the Grand Canyon in size, to explore underwater landscapes no humans had previously visited.
Named for the Ancient Greek god of the Underworld, the Hadal Zone is the pitch-black layer of our oceans found below 18,000 feet. A scientist from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory joined this expedition for the first ever test of a prototype drone designed to explore the Hadal Zone of our ocean - and eventually, oceans on other planets, like the oceans of Europa, a moon of Jupiter.
